Cymbeline by William Shakespeare Festival Stage 10 a.m. Central Time The King of Britain, Cymbeline, is unhappy. Heavy indeed is the head that wears the crown. Even his daughter tries his patience: she refuses to marry the man he has chosen and secretly weds the one she truly loves. This single act launches us into enough plot complications and coincidences to make Richard III look like "Leave it to Beaver." Complete with banishment, spectacular villains, a plotting queen, perceived betrayal, death threats, a headless corpse and a happy ending, this, one of Shakespeare's last plays, has been heralded as one of his greatest and most daring experiments. Grades 9 - 12 April 2, 3, 10, 17, 30 |
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare Festival Stage 10 a.m. Central Time The city streets are awash in violence as the rival Capulet and Montague families engage in an endless feud in the most famous love story in the English literary tradition. When Romeo and Juliet, teenagers from the rival clans, meet and fall in love, the stage is set for duels, deceptions, and ultimately tragic events. ASF artistic director Geoffrey Sherman brings a new spin to this ageless tale of star-crossed lovers. Romeo and Juliet was among Shakespeare's most popular plays during his lifetime; now let us introduce your students to this extraordinary work.
