The Alabama Shakespeare Festival was pleased to welcome over 47,000 students and educators from 434 schools
covering 5 states to Alfa SchoolFest performances during the 2008-2009 Season. The Alfa SchoolFest program of
student matinees is designed to offer high quality productions to students grades K-12 at a greatly reduced price.
The performances include a comprehensive study guide, a 10 minute post-performance
talk-back with selected actors, and one free chaperone ticket for every 15 paid student tickets.
Before You Reserve
Please take note of our grade level recommendations. The Alabama Shakespeare Festival asks the group leader to
take responsibility for whether a play is appropriate or not for their particular group. The Alabama Shakespeare
Festival does not censor or edit the content of the SchoolFest performances. Due to the nature of live theatre
information on language, setting, and length will be available closer to the opening of the show. We will
answer your questions about the plays to the best of our ability.
All performances start promptly at 10:00 AM unless otherwise noted.

Ferdinand the Bull

All Ferdinand wants is to sit in his field and smell the flowers.
All Danilo wants is to dance. But Danilo's father, the Duke, has other ideas, and so into the bullring
they go. This sweet and funny musical, based on Munro Leaf's classic children's story, teaches important
lessons about being true to yourself. Ferdinand the Bull is a wonderful introduction to understanding
and fostering pride in one's culture while respecting others.

A Christmas Story

whacky than yours. A Christmas Story is based on the classic and beloved 1983 movie.

Harriet's Return

The Fall of the House

The spirit of Edgar Allan Poe haunts this mind-bending new play that brings
together magic, betrayal, forbidden love, tragic accidents, secret documents and familial bonds that span
150 years. Set in the first half of the nineteenth century and jumping back and forth to the present, The
Fall of the House explores the effects of family history and how the cracks in its foundation can push those
who come after toward the dark or the light.
Recommended for grades 11 & 12 due to mature themes.

prince suffers the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune as he seeks to avenge the murder of his father,
poisoned by Hamlet's conniving uncle. The bodies pile up as his revenge takes its toll on the innocent as
well as the guilty.

All's Well That Ends Well

Payment Instruction:
A purchase order is required within 2 weeks of placing your reservation. Full payment is due 3 weeks before
your performance date*. Remember we seat by when the reservation is paid, not when the reservation is placed.

The Alabama Shakespeare will send you an invoice to the contact person. Registrations not paid may be canceled.
* If for any reason you need an extension, please keep us informed, we want you to be able to expose your students to our productions.
Cancellation Policy:
In the event you must cancel your reservation or reduce the size of your group please do so no less than 6 weeks
before the performance date. The Alabama Shakespeare Festival offers no refunds.

ASF House Rules and Theatre Etiquette
WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO ASK AUDIENCE MEMBERS TO LEAVE (AND NOT RETURN) IF THEY BECOME DISRUPTIVE.
We ask that you review the following information with your students prior to coming to the theatre.
1. Students should use the restrooms upon arrival. Students should know that if they leave the theatre while the performance is in progress, they may not be allowed back inside the theatre
2. Do not eat or chew gum during the performance. Food and drinks are not allowed in the theatre.
3. Do not place your feet on the chair in front of you, on the stage or balcony railing.
4. NO CAMERAS OR RECORDING DEVICES OF ANY KIND ARE ALLOWED IN THE THEATRE. It is against copyright laws to take photographs of any kind inside the theatre. You are welcome to take photographs on the grounds and lobbies.
5. Turn OFF and put away all electronic devises prior to entering the theatre, such as cell phones, beepers/pagers, watch alarms, iPods, video game systems, laser pointers, etc. Text messaging and game playing during the performance will not be tolerated. (If possible, please prevent your students from bringing such items with them to the theatre)
6. In live theatre, the actors can SEE AND HEAR the audience. Please be respectful of the actors by not whispering or talking during the performance.
7. Please have chaperones spaced out among your students for maximum supervision.
8. An announcement will be made to indicate the beginning of a performance and the beginning of Act 2. Please listen and return to your seats accordingly. Return to the same seat following intermission(s).
9. During the talk back please do not ask a question that you would not ask your Mother, Grandmother or Pastor's wife.
10. Applause after a well performed song or dance during a scene, after each act and at curtain call is appreciated. During curtain call do not rush to the exits. It is very rude to actors.
If an audience member deliberately interferes with an actor or the performance by tripping them or by throwing anything on the stage to create an unsafe environment before or during a performance, the performance may be discontinued and no refunds made. Future attendance by the offending school may be monitored or prohibited.
